How to Make a Blast Furnace in Minecraft

If you’ve just come back to your base after venturing into the huge caves of Minecraft for the first time, you’ve probably gathered up lots of raw materials. I can imagine that you’ve filled up your inventory with stacks of iron and gold, ready to be smelted. But, with so many raw items, you’ll need a dozen furnaces to smelt them efficiently. That’s where blast furnaces join the frame. Here’s how to make a blast furnace in Minecraft.

What Is a Blast Furnace in Minecraft

A Blast Furnace is one of the items that was added in the 1.14 Update back in 2019. While they require quite a few materials to be crafted, they’re very much worth it, as they can smelt materials way faster than regular furnaces.

Alas, these can also naturally generate in your world.

Where Can You Find a Blast Furnace in Minecraft

Finding a Blast Furnace

Blast Furnaces will naturally generate in villages that have an armorer. More specifically, as you can see above, they’ll appear right in the armorer’s house. Thankfully, armorers aren’t that rare, so you’ll have a high chance of finding one inside the first village you come across.

That said, if you don’t have a village near you, you might be better off making a Blast Furnace.

How to Craft a Blast Furnace in Minecraft

Blast Furnace Recipe

To craft a Blast Furnace in Minecraft, you’ll need to use the recipe shown above, which requires the following materials:

  • 1 Furnace
  • 5 Iron Ingots
  • 3 Smooth Stones

With the latest Minecraft updates, iron has become a bit of a commodity, as you’ll have to dig deep into caves to find a few raw iron blocks. But if you come across an iron vein, this won’t be too much of an issue.

To make a smooth stone, you only have to smelt regular cobblestone using a furnace.

How to Use a Blast Furnace in Minecraft

Now that you have your hands on a Blast Furnace, you should be ready to use it. Blast Furnaces have two primary uses; they smelt materials fast, and they can turn a villager into an armorer.

Smelting Items Faster

Just like Smokers, Blast Furnaces can smelt items twice as fast as regular furnaces. While the former cook food faster, the latter smelt raw materials at double the rate of a furnace, eating up double the fuel in the process.

Turning a Villager Into an Armorer

If there’s an unemployed Villager at your nearest village, simply place down a Blast Furnace in the premises, and they’ll turn into an Armorer. Armorers are excellent for high-level trades, as they can provide you with enchanted diamond armor early on in the game.

Conclusion

And that’s how you can make a Blast Furnace in Minecraft. With their addition to the game, getting full iron armor became much faster. Plus, the Armorer profession that came along with them is one of the best ones in the game. What’s your take on the Blast Furnace? Let us know over on the Minecraft Forum!
